JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that there was inflation of 0.08 percent on a monthly basis or month to month (mom) in March 2021. Of the 90 cities surveyed by the BPS Consumer Price Index (CPI), 58 cities experienced inflation while 32 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Jayapura with 1.07 percent, while the lowest inflation was in Tangerang and Banjarmasin with 0.01 percent respectively.
"Of the 32 cities, the highest deflation was in Baubau, namely minus 0.99 percent, while the lowest deflation was in Palopo which was minus 0.01 percent," he said.
Setianto said that inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most indexes for the expenditure group, namely, the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.40 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.02 percent; and the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 0.04 percent.
Then, the group of equipment, tools, and routine household maintenance by 0.10 percent; the health group of 0.08 percent; the recreation, sports, and culture group by 0.05 percent; the education group of 0.01 percent; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.17 percent.
