Erling Haaland On The Verge Of Sanctions Ban On Playing The Premier League
JAKARTA - Erling Haaland is on the verge of a ban on playing in the Premier League after being involved in an incident in the Manchester City vs Arsenal match, Sunday, September 22, 2024.
The 24-year-old forward became the center of several controversial incidents during the fifth week of the 2024/2025 Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium.
Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey has shared his views on a possible ban on playing for Erling Haaland following the duel against Arsenal.
The 24-year-old striker is at the core of four key topics of the game. The first one happened just five minutes after the game started.
He reacted to Kai Harvertz's actions against Rodri. Shortly after, Haaland launched a hard tackle on William Saliba. Luckily, he didn't receive the card.
Moments later, the Norwegian national team player broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish.
In the second half, Haaland fired several times on target for an equalizer when the position was 1-2 behind.
As long as he tried to break into Arsenal's goal, various reactions were made. Take, for example, Haaland's action hit Thomas Partey after the second half had just started.
Then, when his shot only resulted in a goal kick for the opponent, Haaland then took the ball and threw it behind Gabriel Magalhaes' head.
However, none of his efforts paid off. John Stones, who finally became the equalizer in the second half injury time.
The last thing that caught attention was the tension that escalated when Haaland engaged in several confrontations with opponents after the final whistle sounded.
Mark Halsey said the various incidents allowed Haalan to be sentenced to retrospect, especially his actions against Gabriel Magalhaes.
"You can argue that it was an act of violence because it was like throwing an object at someone's head."
"It's like he punched someone in the head. So, he can think of himself as very lucky because Michael Oliver didn't see him and VAR didn't see him either."
"It would be interesting to see if the FA took retrospective action over the incident as it could be interpreted as an act of violence," Halsey told The Sun.
During the match, VAR reviewed the incident and took no further action.
So far the English Football Association (FA) has not confirmed the Haaland incident.
