Russian Troops Attack Ukrainian Vuhledar

JAKARTA - Russian troops began storming the city of Vuhledar in eastern Ukraine, a stronghold that has held back Russian attacks since the start of the war in 2022, according to Russian war bloggers and state media.

Russian units have entered Vuhledar the storm has begun, said Yuri Podolyaka, a pro-Russian military blogger born in Ukraine. Several pro-Russian bloggers confirmed the attack.

Russian state media said the city at the top of the hill in the Donetsk region, which is partly considered a fort because of its resistance to the Russian attack, was caught in a clamped motion by Russian troops.

Fighting is ongoing in the east of the settlement. Unverified videos on social media showed the city hit by heavy artillery fire.

Russian troops in eastern Ukraine made progress at the fastest level in two years in August.

Ukraine's general staff said Russia had made efforts to seize Ukraine's position near Pavlivka and Vuhledar, but gave no further details.

There has been no direct statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
