Rose Pearson's Awkward Moment When She Finds Out Freddie Mercury Is Gay
JAKARTA - Freddie Mercury's first girlfriend, Rose Pearson revealed an awkward moment when she suddenly realized that her boyfriend was a gay.
The artist, who now goes by the name Rose Rose, opened his voice about the rock icon's sexual life in a new documentary titled A Life in 10 Pictures.
Rose recalled a date with Mercury at the V&A museum in London. It was then she was surprised to see Mercury's interest in naked men beyond "art appreciation."
"We've been to V&A and seen photos by Eadweard Muybridge of men wrestling without clothes," he said.
“I can see he is hooked in a way that goes beyond art appreciation. Then we went to see director Ken Russell's film Women in Love and he was dumbfounded by the wrestling scene. He wanted to stay in the cinema and see it all again.
“My blood went cold, not because it was a bad film but because of the implications. That is the tipping point. "
Rose met Mercury while studying at Ealing Art College, before Queen was formed and when he was still named Farrokh Bulsara.
She described their relationship as "physical and emotional", admitting she felt "motherly" towards Mercury.
But after seeing Mercury's reaction to nude wrestling, Rose knew she couldn't go on living a lie. He then decided to end his relationship with the aspiring rock star.
"I knew we didn't get along and she wanted a relationship with a man so badly at the time. I couldn't stand to see that," she told Radio Times.
Rose went to Russia for two weeks and Mercury was devastated by the breakup.
