Police Must Be Careful In Determining The Cause Of Death Of Seven Teenagers In Bekasi River

JAKARTA - Executive Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi) Edi Hasibuan asked Polda Metro Jaya to be more careful in determining the cause of death of seven teenagers whose bodies were found floating in Kali Bekasi, Jatiasih, Bekasi City, West Java, Sunday.

"We ask Polda Metro Jaya not to decide too quickly that the victim died because he threw himself into the river for fear of avoiding the pursuit of police patrols," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday.

Edi said caution in this incident was very much needed to ensure that the seven teenagers were indeed killed by throwing themselves into the river due to being chased by patrol officers or for other reasons.

According to the lecturer in the postgraduate science and technology of Bhayangkara University Jakarta, Polda Metro Jaya needs other evidence that supports the facts on the ground that they died by throwing themselves into the river.

"We suggest that Polda Metro Jaya need to examine whether there was CCTV or other clues around the scene," he said, quoted by Antara.

prudence, continued Edi, is also needed to convince the public that these victims died due to throwing themselves into rivers or other causes.

Seeing the conditions on the ground, he supported the order of the Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Pol Karyoto so that the Propam Division of the Jaya Police and the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) carried out an in-depth investigation of the case to obtain more accurate information and the truth can be legally justified.

"The role of Propam and Kompolnas is also to ensure whether the implementation of police patrols is in accordance with procedures or not. All of this needs to be done to ensure that incidents that claimed seven lives are clearer and can be accepted by the public," he said.

Previously, residents found seven bodies floating in Bekasi River, to be precise behind the Al Ikhlas Mosque, Pondok Gede Permai Housing, RT004/RW008, Jatirasa, Jatiasih, Bekasi City on Sunday morning at 06.00 WIB and reported it to the police at around 07.00 WIB.

Police said the discovery of the seven bodies was allegedly due to a brawl. The victims allegedly threw themselves into the river to avoid patrols being carried out by the police to prevent brawls in the area.

Hingga saat ini polisi telah menangkap sebanyak 15 orang tersangka dan tiga di antaranya membawa senjata tajam (sajam).
