EU Parliament Agrees Ukraine's Resolution To Attack Russia With Western Weapons

JAKARTA - The European Parliament approved a resolution on Ukraine urging EU countries (EU) to immediately lift all restrictions on the Kyiv attack on Russian territory.

"In a resolution, members of the European Parliament want EU countries to lift current restrictions that prevent Ukraine from using Western weapons systems against legitimate military targets in Russia," the EU parliament said in a statement quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Thursday, September 19.

The text, adopted on Thursday (19/9) with 425 votes in favor, 131 against, and 63 abstain, states that without lifting current restrictions, Ukraine cannot fully exercise its right to defend itself and remains vulnerable to attacks on its residents and infrastructure.

According to lawmakers, inadequate supplies of ammunition and weapons, as well as restrictions on the use of these weapons, threaten to reduce the efforts that have been made so far.

"The resolution calls on EU member states to maintain and expand the Council's sanctions policies against Russia, Belarus, and non-EU countries and entities that provide military technology and double use to Russia," the statement read.

The European Union's parliamentary resolution regarding foreign policy issues is an appeal and does not bind to EU institutions or EU member states.
