Reporting from its official website, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) was founded in 1968 and officially recognized as a single forum for all business actors in Indonesia (based on Law Number 1 of 1987).
The formation of Kadin itself began with the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 84 of 1967, which stated that the business world in Indonesia was given the flexibility to establish their representative organization.
To support this policy, the Governor of DKI Jakarta initiated a meeting of business actors on November 29-30, 1967. The result of this deliberation was the formation of the Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Jaya) which was later ratified on January 8, 1968.

As a form of trust, Kadin Jaya was immediately entrusted with managing the first Jakarta Raya Week in the same year. The success of Kadin Jaya inspired the formation of similar trading rooms in eight other provinces.
