Regarding The Nomination Of The Chairman Of Kadin, Luhut: The Government Does Not Intervene

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan stated that the government has never interfered in the contestation of the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for the period 2021-2026.

Luhut's statement also answered questions related to alleged government support for a candidate for Kadin chairman, Anindya Bakrie. As is well known, Anindya and several provincial Kadin Chairmen came to meet him to keep in touch and have a dialogue at his office in Jakarta, Monday, March 29.

"The government does not side with any candidate and instead supports a dignified KADIN. Choose with conscience who is the best to lead KADIN in the future. Luhut said that the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the coming period should focus more on empowering regions and micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM). Luhut also emphasized that the government is ready to work more closely and effectively with Kadin Indonesia.

Coordinating Minister for Marves, Jodi Mahardi, said that Luhut had discussed the election of candidates for the chairman of Kadin for the 2021-2026 period with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"The president emphasized that the government has no interest in supporting one of the candidates, the important thing is that the election process is democratic and believes that the one who is elected is the best for the nation and state," he said.

As is known, the election market for the general chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has begun to warm up, in line with the end of Rosan Perkasa Roeslani's tenure as chairman for the 2015-2020 period. There are two names appearing on the candidate exchange for Kadin chairman.

Apart from the President Director of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk, Anindya Bakrie, the name of the President Director of Indika Energy Arsjad Rasjid is also included in the nomination market for the chairman of Kadin. The election for the Kadin Ketum will be held at the Kadin National Conference in May or June 2021.
