Jokowi To Prohibit Homecoming In 2021, Sandiaga Asks People To Obey

JAKARTA - The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno asked the public to obey the government's decision not to go home on the Idul Fitri holiday or Eid 2021.

Sandiaga said the decision to ban homecoming was to prevent the increasing number of cases and the spread of COVID-19 amid large community movements at the same time.

"Regarding going home, Kemenparekraf will fully support the government's decision to ban going home in 2021," Sandiaga said in his official statement, Tuesday, March 30.

Sandiaga admitted, the Lebaran holiday moments had indeed been awaited by tourism industry players and the creative economy to gain opportunities. Even though homecoming is prohibited, he said, the public can still support the tourism sector and the creative economy by choosing destinations around (local) by paying attention to the implementation of strict and disciplined health protocols.

Sandiaga asked business actors to remain optimistic amid the government's efforts to accelerate the implementation of vaccinations to create herd immunity. So that the tourism sector and the creative economy can really recover.

"People can choose destinations that personalize, customize, localize by implementing disciplined health protocols. 3M and 3T are all done consistently," he explained.

Likewise with the creative economy, Sandi said, people can consume the country's creative economy products by maximizing the digital platform. Where at this time more and more domestic creative economy players are turning to digital platforms.

"In terms of the creative economy, there will be adaptations. Because it cannot be directly face-to-face with the family, it can be sent with creative economy products that are sent by maximizing the digital platform. (So) creative economy players can still get positive benefits," he said.

Kemenparekraf, Sandi said, will run programs that can help the industry. "As soon as the homecoming ban was issued, I asked some of my ranks to coordinate with the parties who currently need to touch (questions) what is needed," he said.
