Defense Minister Prabowo Meets Vietnam President, Affirms RI Is Ready To Help Victims Of Typhoon Yagi
JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto met with Vietnam's President TENT L waym in Hanoi, Vietnam.
In a meeting that was a series of Prabowo trips in Southeast Asia, Defense Minister Prabowo stated that Indonesia was ready to help Vietnam to deal with the Topan Yagi disaster.
"Indonesia is ready to assist in whatever capacity may be needed. I hope that those who were hit by the disaster will be given strength so that they can immediately start the recovery process," Defense Minister Prabowo told President TENT LENTAM, quoted by ANTARA from a written statement from the Ministry of Defense, Saturday, September 14.
Typhoon Yagi hit northern Vietnam including Hanoi on September 7, 2024. According to a number of local experts, Topan Yagi has become the strongest storm in 30 years, considering the storm was carrying winds of nearly 150 kilometers per hour.
Data from local authorities as of September 12, 2024, Topan Yagi left 199 people dead, 800 injured, and 128 people reported missing. Then, many important buildings, bridges, and infrastructure were damaged by the storm.

Therefore, Defense Minister Prabowo also expressed his concern and condolences to represent the government and the people of Indonesia to the President of Vietnam.
"We express our condolences for the casualties and damage caused by the Topan Yagi disaster in Vietnam on September 7, 2024," said Prabowo.
