Not Children Of Megawati Era, Nawawi Pomolango Calls KPK Born Because Of Reform
BOGOR - Temporary Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango said his institution was not the biological child of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri. The KPK was formed in the reform era referring to the Corruption Act.
"The birth (KPK, ed) was during the Megawati government but this baby was born because of the demands for reform. So please don't push it back," Nawawi said at an event in Bogor, West Java, Thursday, September 12.
This baby is a baby reform, a baby who is born in the era of Megawati's government. That's true, don't reverse it, as if this baby is Megawati's biological child," he continued.
Nawawi then explained that Article 1 of the Anti-Corruption Law ordered the government to form the KPK no later than two years after the law was passed. The regulation was passed on August 16, 1999.
Therefore, the KPK should have been established on August 16, 2001. However, because of the many rejections, the KPK has not been formed in accordance with the mandate of the law.
"There are still so many rejections of this institution. This institution will be able to destroy everything (corruption crimes, ed)," he said.

Only then was the KPK formed on December 27, 2002 through Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Nawawi said this step was taken by the government after activists and anti-corruption activists continued to speak up.
"So after passing 1 year and 4 months, it was only then born that the Corruption Eradication Commission was born. This baby is a baby reform and was born during Megawati's reign, not a baby of Megawati's government who was born during the reform era. Don't turn it around," he said.
Megawati often brought up the KPK when she was in office. He often conveyed this while challenging the investigator who was hunting down Harun Masiku, Rossa Purbo.
The PDIP general chairman also suspected that he was the target of the anti-corruption commission after PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto was often summoned. "I dare, for example, to order Rossa to come, accompany me," Megawati said in her speech at the Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Friday, August 5.
"Gile, the KPK person who made it me. Gile. Just call him, what rank? Is this just a Lt. Col., not a general," he said.
