US 2024 Presidential Election Debate: Harris Highlights Tax Cut Proposal, Trump Attacks High Inflation
JAKARTA - Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican rival Donald Trump shook hands and greeted each other, while starting a debate in the context of the 2024 United States Presidential Election.
"Let's argue well," Harris said as he walked towards Trump and extended his hand.
This is the first time the two have met in person.
"It's great to see you. Have a good time," Trump said in response to Harris.
The debate of former Trump president with incumbent vice president Harris was held at the National Constitution Center, Philadelphia with David Muir and Linsey Davis, on Tuesday night local time and without spectators attending.
Starting a debate with economic problems, Harris said he had plans to help Americans worried about the economy while Trump stressed tariffs
Vice President Harris stressed that he has plans to help American families who claim to be worried about the economy and cost of living.
"I believe in the ambitions, aspirations, and dreams of the American people," he said.
Praises his plans to build an "economic opportunity," including his proposal to make housing more affordable and expand children's tax credit.
Vice President Harris attacked former president Trump's proposal, such as cutting taxes to companies and arguing it would harm middle-class American families.
Trump has pledged to extend tax cuts from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, particularly TCJA's individual income tax breaks and reduce the company's tax rates.
Trump responded by repeating his claim that he would impose tariffs on other countries, such as China. He also showed President Joe Biden maintained the tariff.
The former president also stressed the high inflation rate under the Biden-Harris Administration, saying it has been a "disaster to society, to the middle class, and also to all circles."
