Regarding Balongan Refinery Fire, Pertamina Diverted Jet Fuel Supply To Three Affected Airports

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina's Balongan refinery caught on fire on Monday, March 29, early in the morning, as a result, the refinery was forced to temporarily stop operating. Therefore, the supply of jet fuel for three major airports on the island of Java will be diverted.

As is well known, the Balongan oil refinery is the main supplier of aviation fuel needs at three major airports, namely Husein Sastranegara Airport, Bandung; Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, Jakarta; and Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang.

Pertamina Patra Niaga (Commercial & Trading) President Director Mas'ud Khamid said that for the time being the three airports will be supplied with aviation fuel from Fuel Oil Terminal (TBBM) Soekarno Hatta and the Cilacap Refinery.

"There are three airports that have been supplied from Balongan. Husein, Halim and Ahmad Yani. For Husein, we're consolidating supply from Soekarno-Hatta. The stock is sufficient. For Ahmad Yani, we divert supply from Jogja. Adi Sumarno, Adi Sucipto and NYIA are 100 percent of the total from Cilacap", he said in a virtual press conference, Monday, March 29.

Later, the support will also be optimized from a number of other fuel terminal facilities (TBB) such as TBB Plumpang, Cilegon, Bandung Raya, Ujung Berung, and Padalarang.

Furthermore, Mas'ud emphasized that jet fuel stocks were still sufficient. He said that there were still stocks of around 3.2 million barrels at TBBM Soekarno Hatta and Cilacap refineries which were ready to be transferred to the three airports.

"Avtur is also very sufficient for 3.2 million barrels or 74 days of consumption. So, there is no shortage. There is a lot of stock", he explained.

For your information, the oil refinery in Balongan caught on fire on Monday, March 29 in the morning. Up to 6 hours after the incident, the fire was still burning. The refinery has an important role.

President Director of PT Pertamina Nicke Widyawati said that until now her party was still working hand in hand in overcoming the fire. At least 10 fire engines have been deployed from Cirebon, Indramayu and Pertamina

"The current condition, the fire can be localized. For extinguishing the fire, we use foam in the center of the flame, so we make sure the fire does not spread to other areas. We are also cooling the surrounding areas", she said.
