Google Launches File Upload Features On Gemini Android And IOS Apps

JAKARTA Since it was first launched, the Gemini app on mobile devices only supports image downloading. Now, the chatbot application has received new support for uploading files.

This ability has been much awaited because chatbot applications based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as Claude and ChatGPT can upload files. Even though it's a little late, Gemini can finally respond to questions related to files uploaded by users.

Quoted from the 9to5google report, this capability is only available to Gemini Advanced users. In the question box, the user will see a new icon in the line of microphone, camera, and Gemini Live icons. This plus-shaped icon will display three options when tapped.

The option is Uploading Files, Uploading from Gallery, and Uploading from Drive. Especially for Gemini on iOS devices, users will not see the Upload option from Drive. If iOS users want to see the option, they should switch to Gemini's website.

There are several types of files that can be uploaded to the Gemini app, including plain text files or TXT, files such as DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, and HWPX, documents made in Google Docs, to tabular data files in the form of CSV and TSV.

This application also supports excel files with XLS and XLSX codes as well as spreadsheets made on Google Sheets. Users can upload 10 files at one time and each file must be less than 100 MB.

This new capability began rolling out on Android and iOS devices on Wednesday, September 4. If users don't see this new feature in the app they're using, update the app first or wait until the launch is complete.
