Explosion In Makassar, Danny Pomanto Checks Congregation Of The Cathedral Church
JAKARTA - The police have closed the access road on Kajaolalido Street, MH Thamrin, Makassar City. Following the suicide bombing that occurred not far from the Makassar Cathedral Church.
It is known that the explosion occurred at around 10:28 a.m. local time. At the time of the incident, a number of church congregations were said to be worshiping at the Church.
"We are grateful that the incident occurred at the secondary gate. At the main gate, I am sure that there will be a lot of victims," said the Mayor of Makassar Danny Pomanto, as quoted in the KompasTV interview, Sunday, March 28.
"Fortunately, the skewer position of this church is with our main road in Karebosi. We are grateful that this does not enter at the main door," he added.
Regarding this incident, Danny said that access roads around the Makassar Cathedral Church were closed.
"I saw that the Head of Regional Police immediately led completely with the equipment. We are in a position in the church to see the position of the streets. This has been marked all the way," he explained.
According to eyewitnesses in the vicinity of the incident, there was a loud explosion that caught the attention of local residents. The explosion was allegedly from a suicide bombing.
The National Police deployed Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) and other units to handle the incident of the alleged suicide bombing at the Cathedral Church in Makassar.
