Hybrid Incentives Not So, Auto2000 Optimistic That Hybrid Vehicle Sales Continue To Grow

JAKARTA - Some time ago, the government through the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that there was no additional regulation around the country's automotive industry. This can be interpreted that the government did not issue a hybrid vehicle incentive policy in Indonesia.

The government considers that the hybrid segment has received good reception and has even doubled its growth compared to the previous year.

This is quite unfortunate considering that this incentive can provide stimulus for people's purchasing power for hybrid cars and will have a good impact on the industry. However, a number of main automotive actors feel that the absence of incentives will still make people's purchasing power high.

Sales Program and Marketing Communication Dept Head Auto2000 Jaka Kardana, said that without the provision of incentives from the government would not reduce public interest in buying hybrid vehicles.

"We see that without incentives, it will not have any impact," said Jaka when met in East Bekasi, Sunday, August 25.

He gave an example that at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), public enthusiasm for hybrid vehicles was quite high with the Innova Zenix and Yaris Cross models contributing to the highest electrification sales from the Toyota brand.

"Auto2000 itself collects 30 percent of Vehicle Ordering Letters (SPK), which are hybrid models and what is of interest are Innova Zenix and Yaris Cross," explained Jaka.

Jaka also added that his party will follow the strategy set by Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) and manufacturers globally, namely multi-pathway by selling electrified vehicles in the form of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) in Indonesia.

"In Toyota itself, we use multi-pathway methods. Right now, we see a lot of vehicles from the BEV segment, yes, but the HEV and PHEV actually still have segments and hopefully the interest will continue to increase," explained Jaka.

Some time ago, TAM recorded 6,202 SPKs along GIIAS 2024 with Kijang Innova Zenix recording 1,968 units, of which the largest portion was in the HEV or hybrid variant as many as 1,305 units.

Then, another best-selling hybrid model is the Yaris Cross HEV with 240 units, followed by Alphard HEV with 121 units, followed by the Vellfire HEV 25 units, and the Corolla Cross with 23 units.
