While Farming, Farmers In Sumedang Killed Due To Flash Floods
JAKARTA - A resident was found dead as a result of being hit by flash floods and landslides in Citengah Village, South Sumedang District, Sumedang Regency, West Java, Friday, March 26.
The victim was named Mamat Rahmat (40). He was found dead by the team, and then evacuated to the hospital.
"The victim was successfully evacuated and handed over to the victim's family and then forwarded to Sumedang Hospital", said the Rescue Team Commander of the Bandung SAR Office, Idham Salasa in Garut, reported by Antara, Friday, March 26.
He explained that flash floods hit the rice fields in Citengah Village, South Sumedang District, Thursday, March 25 after heavy rains flushed the area.
Reports from residents, said Idham, were at the time the victim was working in the middle of rice fields or areas affected by flash floods.
"The victim was found in the rice field area which was an overflow of the flash flood, it is known based on the reports of the victim when the incident was working", he said.
Joint officers in the field had difficulty getting to the disaster location because they had to pass through rivers and rice fields, so the officers had to make roads to facilitate the process of finding victims.
"To get to the location, we have to pass rivers, rice fields, and bridges that are cut off, so the team must make efforts to create separate access to the evacuation site", he said.
