Weather Friday 16 August, Sumatra Rain And Java Island Covered By Thick Clouds

JAKARTA - Cloudy weather and rain are predicted to occur in several major cities in Indonesia today, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast.

In a BMKG weather forecast broadcast monitored online in Jakarta, Friday, August 16, BMKG forecaster Syndhy Indah said light rain had the potential to fall in the Banda Aceh and Pekanbaru areas and thunderstorms occurred in the Medan, Padang and Tanjung Pinang areas.

Light rain can also occur in the Jambi and Palembang areas and thick cloudy conditions in Bengkulu and Bandarlampung. Meanwhile, he said the BMKG predicts the potential for lightning in Pangkalpinang.

For the Java Island area, Syndhy said that thick cloudy conditions are predicted to occur in Serang, Jakarta and Bandung today. Cloudy weather can also be experienced in the city of Yogyakarta and running air for Semarang and Surabaya.

He said sunny cloudy conditions will decorate the cities of Mataram and Kupang for today, with Denpasar experiencing cloudy conditions.

In the Kalimantan Island area, BMKG predicts thunderstorms to occur in Pontianak, accompanied by light rain in the Palangkaraya and Tanjung Selor areas. Cloudy conditions have the potential to occur in Banjarmasin and running air in Samarinda.

Cloudy weather dominates the Sulawesi region, according to the BMKG, specifically in Manado, Gorontalo, Kendari and Makassar. BMKG also warns of the potential for light rain to fall in Mamuju and smoke/but conditions in the Palu area.

In eastern Indonesia, light rain has the potential to fall in Ternate, Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya and Merauke. Meanwhile, cloudy weather is predicted to be experienced by people in Ambon and Manokwari.
