KNKT Deploys 3 Investigators To Investigate KM Kirana I Fire In Semarang

The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) conducted an investigation into the fire incident that hit KM Kirana I which occurred in the waters of Semarang, Central Java, on Sunday, August 11.

Acting Head of the Tanjung Emas Port Authority and Port Authority (KSOP) Office, Ferry Akbar, said the NTSC assigned three investigators to investigate the fire.

"KNKT will interview related parties, collect evidence, and check the location of the incident," he said in Semarang, Thursday, August 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said five investigators from KSOP Tanjung Emas were assigned to assist the investigation.

"Investigation is planned to be carried out for three days," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of PT Dharma Lautan Utama (DLU) Branch Herman Fakar said KM Kirana I, who serves the Semarang-Sampit route, will be replaced by KM Kirana III.

"For the operation of KM Kirana III in the process of applying for a route permit," he said.

The passengers of KM Kirana I who were supposed to go to Sampit on Wednesday, August 14, he said, had returned 100 percent tickets.

Previously, KM Kirana I caught fire in Semarang waters about 3 miles from Tanjung Emas Port on Sunday, August 11 afternoon.

KM Kirana is planned to dock to Semarang Port before continuing its journey to Sampit on August 13, 2024.

Police said there were no casualties in the ship fire which was not carrying the passenger.

Joint officers evacuated 52 crew members who had escaped by throwing themselves into the sea in the unfortunate incident.
