Controversy Over Luna Maya And Deddy Corbuzier, Making The Problem Of Eating Disorder Of INTM Participants A Joke
JAKARTA - The statement of one of Indonesia's Next Top Models (INTM) participants, Danella Ilene, caused controversy. Not because of her admission that she had an eating disorder, but because of how Luna Maya and Deddy Corbuzier commented on the jury.
They consider Ilene's mental illness as a joke. "I really like eating, so I have an eating disorder, right?" said Luna Maya, interrupting Ilene's explanation.
"Depression? Wait, wait, hold on. I'm curious, really, with friends here, especially you, Ilene. You, you, are beautiful. You are, you are, a model, tall. Then, sexy, yes. Smart, yes. If you are depressed, you are hurting the martabak craftsmen who sell in front of the house, "said Deddy Corbuzier.
Tw: Depression and Eating disorder I cant even begin to explain how upsetting and disappointing these videos are. To be open and transparent about your mental illnesses (god knows how hard that is) and to be belittled and mocked on television breaks my heart so much. pic.twitter.com/bOSghlrWIk

Eating disorder is a feeling of wanting to eat a lot and not wanting to eat at all. Even though Ilene still smiled, it made netizens angry. They accuse Luna and Deddy of not being Deddy insensitive to Ilene's mental health. Even though Ilene further underlines the story of her success through the difficult times and depression she suffered.
Snippets of Deddy and Luna's comments were re-uploaded by netizens to provide comments. "I cant even begin to explain how upsetting and disappointing these videos are. To be open and transparent about your mental illnesses (god knows how hard that is) and to be belittled and mocked on television breaks my heart so much." write the @raechuuu account while uploading a video clip of Deddy and Luna when commenting on Ilene.
Jiemi Ardian, a psychologist from Siloam Hospital Bogor, also gave his opinion via @jiemiardian. "Psychiatric disorders can affect anyone. Rich-poor, pretty-ordinary, religious-non-religious, all may experience mental disorders. Unfortunately, people with mental disorders are often blamed for their condition, ”he wrote. Benny Prawira, Suicidologist (a person who studies suicide behavior and prevention), considers that Deddy and Luna's comments will add stigma, myths and inaccurate responses to ordinary people. "Hi @netmediatama @netmedia_info, next time please pay attention to the impact of this kind of scene to the people and also the public. Have the courage to give personal stories of mental disorders even being insulted. The jury's response like this can be imitated & agreed upon by audiences who are still unfamiliar with mental disorders," he explained.
Knowing that there was a lot of criticism and input on Deddy Corbuizer and Luna Maya's comments, Net TV promised to delete the comments section when uploading the digital version on YouTube. "The latest update shows that @netmediatama has responded on IG. They promised the social media version will cut this scene. Hopefully it can be even better in the future, so there is no need to be reprimanded and cut into the social media version," said Benny Prawira.
