Euro 4 Fuel Implementation Asked Not To Be In A Hurry

JAKARTA - The Government's plan to implement the use of standard Euro 4 fuel in the third quarter of 2028 should be carried out in stages by taking into account people's purchasing power and state financial capabilities.

Member of Commission VII DPR RI, Mulyanto said, the government needs to draw up distribution regulations and prepare supporting infrastructure so that the plan can run fairly so as not to burden the underprivileged.

He also asked the Government not to force itself to complete the rules for implementing strategic policies that must be completed in the government of President Joko Widodo.

Because there are many things to consider in making the Euro 4 fuel rule.

The urgent regulation is that the limitation on the distribution of fuel is right on target, which is still cool. Why should you push the regulation of Euro 4?" said Mulyanto, Wednesday, August 14.

Mulyanto added that for the use of Euro 4 as subsidized fuel, it must be analyzed carefully related to people's purchasing power and the country's economic capabilities.

Moreover, at this time our state budget is still under pressure on interest payments and debt installments, mandatory spending or mandatory spending, IKN's impromptu program.

"Our fiscal room is still very limited in the midst of the existing trade balance deficit. Likewise, people's purchasing power after the COVID-19 pandemic still feels weak," explained Mulyanto.

He considered that the purpose of this program in the long term was quite good. Therefore, the implementation must be carefully considered, in order to get a positive response from the community. Instead of creating new unrest in the community.

The higher the standard for the Euros, the more eco-friendly it is. But the more environmentally friendly it will be, the more expensive it will be. If people are asked which one to choose, clean fuel or cheap fuel? So the answer really depends on the economy class. If the upper middle class with good income, environmental knowledge, and vehicle ownership, it can be understood that it is easy to accept high Euro standards. But for small communities, they generally don't think about the quality of the fuel used. They are more concerned with the affordable price, "explained Mulyanto.

Mulyanto asked the Government to be fair in drafting regulations for the use of environmentally friendly gasoline. So that the distribution is really right on target.

"Just today, we still find the fact that the middle class with luxury vehicles still uses subsidized fuel. So, in a volatile manner, let products like this be temporarily used by the upper middle class as non-subsidized fuel, so as not to burden the people and suppress state finances," concluded Mulyanto.
