The Vice President Of Iran Will Resign, Disagree With Masoud's New Government Composition
JAKARTA - Former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who was appointed vice president of strategic affairs by the newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on August 2, announced his intention to resign.
The reason Zarif's possible resignation could be due to disagreements over the country's new cabinet composition. On Sunday (11/8), Pezeshkian, who was elected last month, submitted to Iran's parliament a list of politicians he proposed to form a new cabinet. Of the 19 proposed candidates, only one is a woman.
"I feel dissatisfied with the results of my work, and I feel ashamed that I cannot get the opinion of the expert committee as well as the presence of women, youth, and relatives in a decent way, as I promised. Of course, there are still several other vice presidents, who hopefully can cover this shortcoming," Zarif said on X.
Zarif hopes for success for representatives of the new government and thanks the president for the opportunity to participate in the election of candidates for the cabinet.
