Mazda CX-5 Next Generation No Diesel Variant, Replaced With Hybrid Drivers

JAKARTA - Mazda is rumored to be stopping the diesel variant on the CX-5 model and replacing it with a hybrid type for a new generation to come.

Reported by Motor.es written by Drive, Thursday, August 8, the medium SUV will come with additional hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options.

Unfortunately, information about the next generation of CX-5 is still very limited. But earlier this year, the premium brand confirmed that it would come with a self-developed hybrid powertrain to match its rivals like the Toyota RAV4.

It is estimated that the third generation of Mazda CX-5 will debut for the first time in 2025 and will be launched into the global market one year later.

The manufacturer based in Hiroshima, Japan is not the only one turning off the diesel variant in its lineup of models. This move is also carried out by other brands such as Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota. However, a number of automotive manufacturers still maintain this option in their light commercial vehicles.

Mazda has introduced the diesel variant to CX-5 since 2012 in the first generation, starting with a turbo-diesel 2.2 liter engine that produces up to 129 kW of power and 420 Nm of torque.

Then, the second generation was also offered with a diesel version in 2017 and increased its power to 140 kW and a torque of 450 Nm.

Meanwhile, Indonesia did not get the CX-5 diesel variant. PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI) only offers a single engine variant for the Indonesian market.

Carrying out the distinctive Kodo design language, the SUV has a number of advantages. This brand takes a human-centered GVC Plus approach that makes vehicle movement more responsive, confident, and comfortable.

PT EMI only presents CX-5 with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5L engine variant which is claimed to be capable of wasting 190 dk of power and 252 Nm of torque. This technology is claimed to have the ability to disable two of the four cylinders while in a slow condition designed to increase fuel efficiency.

For the Indonesian market, Mazda CX-5 is currently priced at IDR 647.7 million on The Road DKI Jakarta.
