Jokowi: Indonesia's Dream Of Building A Large Ecosystem Of Electric Vehicles Is Starting To Be Visible

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said Indonesia's dream of building a large integrated electric vehicle ecosystem has now begun to materialize or be seen one by one.

This was conveyed by Jokowi when inaugurating the lithium battery anode material factory PT Indonesia BTR New Energy Material in the Kendal Special Economic Zone (KEK), Central Java, on Wednesday, August 7.

"So what we dream of is a large ecosystem of strong and integrated electric vehicles starting to appear one by one," he said, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Wednesday, August 7.

Jokowi said several electric battery component manufacturing factories had been established. Among them are refining and processing facilities or nickel smelters and their derivatives in Morowali and Weda Bay, as well as other locations.

In addition, Jokowi continued, in August and September the copper smelter belonging to PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) will also be ready to produce.

"The third is bauxite in Mempawah, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) I think this month or next month the maximum starts the production experiment," said Jokowi.

According to Jokowi, if all electric vehicle ecosystems have been built, then Indonesia will enter the global supply chain.

"This will provide great added value both in terms of employment and our economic intercourse," he said.

Jokowi also appreciated the speed of PT Indonesia BTR Energy Material in building factories. This is because the factory was built within 10 months of the signing of the investment.

I really appreciate the speed of the construction of this factory. Just 10 months ago we signed in Beijing, suddenly the factory is finished. This is called speed and a fast country will beat a slow country. And we are now a fast country," he said.
