HMI Congress In Surabaya Riots With Each Other Throwing Benches, 6 People Are Questioned By The Police
SURABAYA - Six participants in the XXXI Islamic Student Association (HMI) Congress in Surabaya, East Java were questioned by the police. Examination in the aftermath of the chaos in the congress arena that broke the glass of the Islamic Center building.
"It's still under investigation," said East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nico Afinta, in Surabaya, Wednesday, March 24.
Inspector General Nico said that the chaos at the HMI congress that took place on Tuesday, March 23 could be controlled and the agenda for the congress was resumed.
"Until after dawn, the congress activities are still ongoing with the agenda of the second to third plenary discussion," he said.
In anticipation of further chaos, the East Java Regional Police alerted hundreds of personnel around the congress site. This security was also carried out at the request of the committee and the East Java Provincial Government.
"We are doing an approach. We share with the help of the Governor and the Pangdam and the Danlanud, so that (the masses from Makassar) can be divided in the provincial messes and the TNI. Alhamdulillah, the 1,300 group can understand and secure Surabaya," continued Inspector General Nico.
The HMI XXXI Congress at the Islamic Center Surabaya Building went into chaos when a number of congress participants went berserk and threw chairs at each other, causing the glass to break.
Not only that, hundreds of chairs that were previously neatly arranged were also destroyed by the scattering of the congress participants. There have been no reports of injuries resulting from the incident, but the congress was interrupted due to the incident.
The rioting that took place over the course of destruction forced the police to step in and secure the situation. Meanwhile, outside the congress arena, the cheerful masses were also involved in tension with officials. The reason was that they forced their way in, but the officers blocked them.
The chaos originated from the desire of several congress participants to present the Indonesian HMI Coordinating Board (Badko) to the congress arena which was rejected by the majority of the participants. As a result, the situation became so hot that there was a commotion.
