Smart #5, Smart's Most Powered Electric SUV Will Launch At The End Of August

JAKARTA - The smart, an automotive brand under the auspices of Mercedes-Benz and Geely, will soon launch the latest model called #5 for the Chinese market after its concept version was exhibited at the Beijing Auto Show last April.

After being exhibited at the event, Smart will launch it and the puzzle about the launch date has been revealed.

Autocar reported, Tuesday, August 6, that the SUV will be introduced on August 28. According to the manufacturer, this is the most powerful Smart model ever.

The car will launch at an event in Australia. Thus, Smart #5 will be the third model in the lineup of electric vehicles from this brand, following #1 and #1 which have been present in several markets.

In June, the specifications of this car were leaked to the public from documents belonging to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) China.

The authorities from this bamboo curtain country issued Smart #5 homologation which will be offered with a choice of four colors and four powertrain variants.

The SUV has a medium size with a length of 4,705 mm, a width of 1,920 mm, a height of 1,705 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Smart #5 has a five-door style with an 18-inch rim option of up to 21 inches. The weight of this vehicle reaches 2,450 kg.

In the report, it was stated that the SUV was offered in four variants, two initial variants having a rear wheel drive (RWD) with a single electric motor with 335 dk and 358 dk, respectively.

Then, the top two variants of driving all wheels (AWD) with double electric motors. The first one has an electric motor in front of 221 dk and a back of 358 dk, resulting in a total output of 579 dk.

Second, this car has the same driving configuration and electric motor with 221 dk and 416 dk of power, resulting in 638 dk of power.

Thus, this car can run at the highest speed of 200 km/hour and the highest trim can speed up to 210 km/hour.

For RWD, this type is equipped with a lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Meanwhile, the AWD type gets a nickel manganesecobalt (NMC) battery, all of which are estimated to have a battery with a capacity of 100 kWh. The battery is enough to make the car go up to a range of 700 km according to CLTC calculations.
