The Husband Of US Vice President Kamala Harris Claims To Have Cheated

JAKARTA - The husband of the Vice President of the United States (US) Kamala Harris admitted that he had an affair during his first marriage. This happened before Doug Emhoff married Kalama Harris, who is now a US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party.

Emhoff's confession came after British tabloid The Daily Mail reported the employee Emhoff was pregnant in 2009, but had no babies. CBS News did not mention the name of the woman involved in the relationship.

Two sources of both were close to the woman when she was in a relationship with Emhoff told CBS News the woman's pregnancy ended in a miscarriage.

The two sources, along with a third source familiar with the relationship - all spoke without naming - said although Emhoff was legally married to his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff.

The two separated when the affair occurred. Sources said, in contrast to the Daily Mail report, the woman did not work as Emhoff's caretaker.

The cheating woman teaches at school, although she doesn't teach any children when in a relationship with Emhoff, the source said.

"During my first marriage, Kerstin and I had difficult times because of my actions," Emhoff said in a statement given to CBS News.

"I take responsibility, and in the following years, we address various things as a family and become stronger on the other hand," he added.

In a statement released on Saturday, Kerstin said "Doug and I decided to end our marriage for various reasons, years ago. He is a good father to our children, continues to be a good friend to me and I am truly proud of the warm and supportive mixed family I have built together, Doug, Kamala, and me."

Court records show Kerstin Emhoff filed for divorce in 2009.

A spokesman for the Harris campaign team declined to comment.

A source familiar with the situation told CBS News Harris of the affair before their marriage.

This was also known by people from the Biden campaign team who carried out the Vice President's examination process in 2020.

Harris and Emhoff met in 2013 and married in 2014.
