TikTok Takedown Of Propaganda And Misinformation Content In Myanmar

JAKARTA - TikTok is aggressively lowering misinformation content and violent videos related to the Myanmar government coup. This is done to avoid the propaganda content that is widely disseminated through the creative video platform.

Launching The Verge, the Myanmar government has posted hundreds of videos to TikTok since its military coup against the government in February 2021. This information was reported by the Rest of World.

The video contains pro-government propaganda and misinformation which is intended to confuse the demonstrators. There are also videos of threats from soldiers using weapons aimed at demonstrators.

"The promotion of hate, violence, and misinformation has absolutely no place on TikTok", a TikTok spokesman said in a statement, Tuesday, March 23.

"When we identified a rapidly escalating situation in Myanmar, we rapidly expanded our dedicated resources and further increased efforts to remove the violating content", they continued.

TikTok has deleted some of its videos of violent threats posted during the Myanmar coup. TikTok promised to continue to carry out significant investigations to respond to new threats to keep their platform safe.
