The Indonesia-Pacific Parliament Conference Agrees On Sustainable Commitment And Cooperation

JAKARTA - The House of Representatives (DPR) has completed its 2nd Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta. The meeting, which was attended by 12 Pacific countries, succeeded in adopting Chair's Summary or the Conclusion of Indonesian Chairship.

Fadli Zon, Chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), expressed this conclusion. "This IPPP aims to increase the role of parliament in fostering partnerships and cooperation between Indonesia and Pacific Islands countries based on joint commitments to improve regional connectivity and inclusive development," said Fadli Zon in a statement received on Sunday, July 28.

The deputy chairman of the 2014-2019 DPR also explained a number of strategic things that were summarized in Chair's Summary as a form of full commitment to the institutions of the DPR and parliaments of the Pacific Islands.

In the conclusions adopted, there are several important points. First, the commitment to improve economic, political and social connectivity in the Pacific region. This vision aims to make the Pacific an integrated and tightly connected region for collective welfare.

Second, there is a strong commitment to maintaining regional peace and security. This includes efforts to build resilience and create prosperity for all parties based on the principle of mutual trust and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country through parliamentary diplomacy.

The view that oceans are oceans as glue, not separators, is the third point. In this case, oceans are respected as a unifying element that can strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding more sustainably.

Fourth, joint attention is directed at issues of economic uncertainty, real impacts of climate change, sea degradation, and natural disasters. The threat of food security and maritime security is also an important focus.
