Luhut Soal Wacana Pembatasan BBM Subsidi Pada 17 Agustus: Tidak Ada Itu!

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that the government will not change the purchasing system or selling price of subsidized fuel for motorcycles.

He guaranteed that subsidized fuel would be available for 130 million motorcycles.

Previously, Luhut had thrown out a discourse on limiting the purchase of subsidized fuel which would start on August 17, 2024.

"I've spoken before, I want to repeat again, there will be no changes regarding the purchase or price of Pertalite to 130 million motorcycles. There will be no such thing," said Luhut to reporters at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25.

However, Luhut said, there is still a possibility of limiting fuel subsidies for people who are already capable.

In other words, people who are considered capable will not be able to buy subsidized fuel.

In addition, according to Luhut, Indonesia can save more than IDR 45 trillion with the distribution of subsidized fuel that is more targeted. However, he did not explain what efforts the government would make to carry out the policy.

"What we are now calculating is why we are subsidizing for my gasoline, that's it. That's it, right, we lost a lot. We should have saved Rp45 trillion or more. So, we are still thinking now how to calculate it," he said.

In addition, Luhut also said that currently the government wants to improve the quality of sulfur content in fuel in Indonesia.

The government will suppress the quality of sulfur in existing fuels.

This, said Luhut, is considered to increase the production burden.

Therefore, he continued, there is a possibility that there will be a gradual increase in fuel prices for non-subsidized ones.

Luhut said the increase would be carried out in stages so that it would not burden the community.

"Well, if our thoughts are later with improvements, this is integrated. Later, the increase could be IDR 10 or IDR 20 overtime, so it doesn't feel like it," he added.
