Big Economic Opportunities, Moeldoko Instructs The Acceleration Of Kratom Commercial Governance

JAKARTA - In an effort to increase the potential of Indonesia's agricultural and export sectors, Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko gave strict instructions to accelerate the governance of the krotom trading.

This instruction comes amid heated debates over the sustainability and benefits of the crotom, as the value of exports of these commodities offers significant economic opportunities for the country.

Moeldoko emphasized that President Joko Widodo's directive regarding the krotom was clear, namely focusing on its benefits. Thus, he assessed that it is necessary to accelerate the management of trading and legality in the krotom to protect farmers and business actors in exporting krotoms.

"If there are rules of trading, MSMEs can be better fostered to lead downstream," said Moeldoko while chairing the Coordination Meeting for Follow-up to the Presidential Internal Meeting on Policies in Handling, Utilization and Trade of Kratom at the Bina Graha building, Jakarta, Thursday, July 25.

Kratom, scientifically known as Mitgyna speciosa, does not grow much in other countries. Meanwhile, in West Kalimantan, for example, there are at least 44 million atomic trees that thrive.

In the next direction, the former TNI Commander assessed the need for standardization in the export of krotoms. This needs to be done so that there is no return of krotoms because it is not in accordance with the standard exports of the intended country.

"The Ministry of Trade regulates the standards, make sure that the circumstellar matter does not contain bacteria and heavy metals because it will be seen in the industry for export. Don't let anything be rejected," explained Moeldoko.

With this proactive step, continued Moeldoko, the government is committed to exploring the potential of crotoms to the fullest, ensuring that its development is in line with health and safety principles.

"Me and the Minister of Health agreed that the krotoms were not categorized as psychotropic," he said.

On that occasion, Moeldoko firmly asked all parties involved not to be reckless in responding to the problem of circumstellar matter.

"The President's directive is clear, highlight the benefits. We also provide the best solution for the people. Don't worry if there is anything that is complicated by the people, we are Officials, if you can't do anything, why become an Official," he said.

Since August 2022, the Presidential Staff Office has overseen the issue of governance and trading procedures for atomic commodities in Indonesia. This follows up on President Joko Widodo's orders regarding the resolution of the atomic problem.

This coordination meeting was attended by the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Agricultural Quarantine Agency.
