Medan High Court sentences inmate who controlled 45kg from prison to death

The Medan High Court (PT), North Sumatra still sentenced a convict of the Tanjung Gusta Medan Detention Center, Nasrun alias Agam (41), who controlled 45 kg of methamphetamine from iron bars.

"Strengthening the decision of the Medan District Court Number 2552/Pid.Sus/2023/PN Mdn dated April 24, 2024, which was requested for the appeal," reads decision Number: 1121/PID.SUS/2024/PT MDN reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 23.

The appeal-level case was decided by Chief Judge Tumpal Sagala accompanied by Bombongan Silaban and Bryoserizal respectively as Member Judges, at PT Medan, Thursday (18/7).

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court previously sentenced the defendant Nasrun to the death penalty, because it is believed to be proven without rights against the law.

Nasrun has become an intermediary for the sale and purchase of narcotics class I in the form of non-plants weighing more than five grams.

"Therefore, the defendant is sentenced to death," said Chief Judge Erianto Siagian when reading the verdict at the Medan District Court, Wednesday (24/4).

The judge stated that the defendant was found guilty of violating Article 114 (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Article 55 (1) to 1 of the Criminal Code.

The aggravating thing for the defendant's actions is not to support the government's program in eradicating drugs and has disturbed the public, while mitigating factors are not found.

The verdict is the same as the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, Febrina Sebayang, previously charged the defendant Nasrun with the death penalty.

It is known that the case occurred on Thursday, September 21, 2023, personnel from the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate arrested Luthfi (separate files) at Kualanamu Deli Serdang International Airport, North Sumatra.

From the results of the interrogation with evidence from Aris (investigation), then the personnel carried out the development that Aris was in Langsa City, Aceh Province.

Furthermore, the police carried out a raid on a car with the arrests of Safrizal and Mahadir Muhammad (each separate file).

When interrogated, Safrizal admitted that the methamphetamine would be delivered to Rahmad (separate files) who had been waiting on the Medan-Banda Aceh highway, precisely in East Peureulak, East Aceh Regency.

Then, the police secured Rahmad and Tgk Mansur (separate files), Mahadir Muhammad and Nur Fadli (separate files) along with evidence in the form of 45 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

To the police, the five admitted that they were ordered by the defendant Nasrun to deliver the crystal methamphetamine to Lampung with a salary of Rp. 200 million.

Officers carried out developments and on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, the police picked up the defendant Nasrun at the Tanjung Gusta Medan Rutan to be taken to the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate office for further investigation.
