DPR Ready To Host 2nd IPPP, 16 Pacific Region Countries Will Be Present
JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives is ready to host the 2nd Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP), in July 2024. The event will be attended by 16 passive countries.The parliamentary meetings of this Pacific region will precisely be held in Jakarta on July 24-26, 2024. The goal is to build connectivity between the DPR RI and the parliament of Pacific countries through various collaborations.The chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Fadli Zon, explained that the seven Pacific parliaments had confirmed their presence at this regional event.He said this forum was first held in 2018. However, there was a delay due to COVID-19, followed by the Indonesian House of Representatives to host the IPU in 2022."Therefore, we are only now able to hold this second meeting. We hope that there will be high and active participation from the parliament of Pacific countries," said Fadli Zon in a written statement, Monday, July 22.The member of Commission I of the DPR revealed that the IPPP meeting will discuss issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which focuses on improving the quality of life in Indonesia, Asian Pacific countries, and the world.In addition, said Fadli, the event will also formulate the concept of maintaining Natural Resources (SDA) in each country for the common interest. This concept is considered important to face challenges such as climate change and food security."This meeting is important to solve current challenges such as climate change and food security," said Fadli Zon.The Gerindra legislator hopes that the results of the 2nd IPPP meeting themed 'Partnership for Prosperity: Fostering Regional Connectivity and Inclusive Development' will be input for The 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting which will be held in Tonga on 26-30 August 2024.Fadli added, the DPR RI BKSAP also pays attention to the development of the green economy by focusing on the welfare of the community, which has an impact on improving the skills of human resources and utilizing natural resources in a sustainable manner.
According to Fadli, the first IPPP meeting in 2018 was the opening door for relations between the Indonesian parliament and Pacific countries."This forum will open dialogue and communication between countries in the Pacific region, important for our national interests," he concluded.
