Biden Reportedly Will Withdraw From The US Presidential Election, Harris Kamala Is Not His Substitute

JAKARTA - United States (US) President Joe Biden plans to step down from the presidential election in the near future but will not support Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, broadcaster Newsmax reported.

According to Newsmax commentator Mark Halperin, citing several sources, Biden has agreed to withdraw his candidacy, the fastest will be done this weekend, with Sunday being the most likely day. There has been a speech prepared for him and he will continue to carry out his duties as president in office.

However, Biden will not support Harris as his successor, reported by ANTARA from Sputnix, Friday, July 19. There is hope Biden will support the open process, meaning the presidential candidate will be elected at the National Democratic Convention in Chicago, Halperin said.

On June 27, Biden, who is 81 years old, looked confused and incoherent throughout his first debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump, who was 78 years old.

This condition reinforces existing concerns about his cognitive abilities. His poor performance has led some Democrat politicians and donors to call for him removed from the list of US presidential candidates.

The National Democrat Convention is scheduled to take place in Chicago from 19 to 22 August 2024.
