Landslide Disaster In Tembagapura, Central Papua Swallows Seven Casualties
JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province said that based on information received, there had been landslides in the Wini area (Kali Escape) in Tembagapura District, seven victims died.
Head of Mimika Regency BPBD Moses Yarangga via text message to ANTARA in Timika, Sunday said that related to the landslide incident, his party continued to coordinate with PT Freeport Indonesia.
"We received information from the Tembagapura Police Chief that a landslide occurred in the area which resulted in the death of seven people," he said.
According to Moses, on Monday, July 15, 2024, his party will collect data with a team related to landslides that occurred in the PT Freeport area.
"So on Saturday, July 13, 2024, the rainfall in Mimika Regency was quite high, this caused landslides in the Wini area, Tembagapura," he said.

He explained that the landslide occurred on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at around 03.00 WIT, and seven bodies were found, which were divided into five adults and two children.
"According to the information we received that seven people died, five were from the Moni Tribe and two from the Damal Tribe," he said again.
He added that the community should always be careful and vigilant, when doing activities in the rainy season as it is today.
"For all people of Mimika Regency, we urge you to always take care of yourself and prioritize the safety of weather armpits entering the rainy season," he said again.
