Erick Thohir Affirms No Tolerance For Match Fixing Perpetrators

JAKARTA - Chairman of the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir emphasized that PSSI will impose strict sanctions on perpetrators who make match fixing in soccer league competitions in Indonesia.

"There is one big point, I have no tolerance for match fixing," said Erick as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, July 14.

In a regulatory socialization event presented by PSSI Regulatory Committee team representative Yoshimi Ogawa, Erick reiterated PSSI's commitment to transform the football league in the country.

He said that building quality leagues cannot be done unilaterally or individually, but must go through the cooperation of all elements to carry out changes.

"The league must change, PSSI must change, the club must change," he said.

To get to the expected change in league quality, PSSI will not tolerate the practice of match fixing by unscrupulous managers, coaches, players, referees, maulun agents.

"If there is a brush and if anyone knows about this joke, report it to me," he concluded.

Furthermore, Erick added, he will continue to encourage the transformation of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) to make breakthroughs and improvements.

The Indonesian league, he said, must be of more quality so that it can become the best league in Southeast Asia with the top 15 in Asia.

Meanwhile, based on the league quality ranking released by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in May 2024, the Indonesian League 1 is still ranked 28th at the Asian level and sixth at ASEAN.
