Swift's Latest Suzuki Can Only Get 3 Stars Of NCAP Euro Testing

JAKARTA - First revealed as a concept in October last year, and soon followed by its production version in December of the same year, the latest Suzuki Swift received a radical design overhaul.

Quoting from the Paultan page, Friday, July 12, the car this time tested the Euro New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), and the results resulted in three stars in the agency's rigorous testing.

The agency has set a number of criteria for testing, including the ability to detect children. In the test, Swift managed to score 67 percent in the adult passenger protection category.

Meanwhile, protection for child passengers is at 65 percent, this is due to the weak neck protection when using dolls representing children aged six years and the lack of a child presence detection system.

On the other hand, Swift performs better in the vulnerable road user category with a score of 76 percent, providing good or adequate protection for pedestrian heads or cyclists who are hit. The autonomous emergency braking system (AEB) also responds well to pedestrians and is considered 'good' for cyclists. However, this hatchback does not provide protection against 'dooring' where the car door suddenly opens when a cyclist approaches from behind.

In terms of safety, Swift scored 62 percent and met the requirements of the law by having an AEB, an emergency lane guard system, speed barriers, and driver fatigue detection.

The agency stated that the model had fulfilled its obligations, but did not do more because of further systems such as rear passenger detection and limited driver status monitoring.
