Knock! SYL Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison, Lighter Than Prosecutors' Demands
JAKARTA - Former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL was found guilty in the case of extortion and receiving gratuities within the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan). Thus, the panel of judges sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
"Syahrul Yasin Limpo has therefore been sentenced to 10 years in prison," said Hakin, Chairman of Rianto Adam Pontoh during a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Thursday, July 11.
Not only prison witnesses, but the panel of judges also imposed a fine of Rp. 300 million. If SYL does not have the ability, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 4 months.
This verdict is lower than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) who charged SYL with a 12-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

In addition, in the prosecutor's demands, SYL was also asked to pay replacement money of around Rp44 billion and US$ 30 thousand.
The claim was made because the prosecutor believed that SYL violated Article 12 letter e in conjunction with Article 18 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code
