JAKARTA - Football legends Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho Gaucho publicly support and promote a Solana-based meme coin called WaterCoin (WATER) through their Instagram story.

Recently, Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentine national team and legend FC Barcelona, shared an Instagram post featuring a photo of himself with the Water token logo. The day after, Brazilian football legend and Barcelona FC Ronaldinho Gaucho also promoted the meme coin through a story on his Instagram account.

Support from the famous athletes has brought great attention to WaterCoin, a potential to increase visibility and adoption in the crypto community.

WaterCoin, whose focus is on raising awareness and solving ecological issues, officially confirms Messi's support. A WaterCoin spokesperson noted that Messi's promotion was the first public support from a celebrity for the project. This support follows a series of leaks by the WaterCoin team about a significant celebrity partnership.

Reporting from Crypto News, according to the project's website, WaterCoin aims to have a positive impact on real-world ecological challenges through charity donations. The project has donated 200,000 US Dollars worth of Bitcoin (approximately IDR 3.2 billion) to help 4,000 people in Uganda and Ethiopia gain access to clean water, along with a donation of 240,000 Dollars worth of Water tokens (approximately IDR 3.9 billion) for various charities.

However, the disclosure of the law clarifies that WATER is a meme coin with no intrinsic value or expectations of financial returns' and completely useless and only for entertainment purposes.

Solana-based Water Meme Coin (WATER) experienced a significant price spike after football legend Lionel Messi promoted it through his Instagram account. This support saw the price of WaterCoin soar from 0.00031 US Dollars (approximately IDR 5.04) to 0.00147 US Dollars (approximately IDR 23.89), an increase of 360%. However, the increase only lasted a moment, and prices have since fallen by more than 70% from a peak of 0.00264 US Dollars (approximately IDR 42.90) on June 26, according to CoinGecko data. Currently, WaterCoin is trading at 0.00.75 US Dollars (approximately IDR 12.19), down 20% in a day.

Messi's support temporarily increased the market value of WaterCoin to more than 100 million US Dollars (approximately Rp1.6 trillion). However, the price volatility of these tokens is consistent with the general trend of celebrity-supported cryptocurrencies experiencing an initial spike followed by a significant decline.
