Threatened To Be Isolated, Kayan's Citizens Buy Basic Needs And Fuel From Malaysia
TANJUNG SELOR - Kayan Apau Community on the Indonesia-Malaysia Border, Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) is in danger of being isolated.
The reason is, the roads connecting 4 sub-districts in Kayan Aahu are Sungai Boh, Kayan Selatan, Kayan Hulu and Kayan Hilir sub-districts including the road to Long Bagun, Mahulu Regency, East Kalimantan (Kaltim) was badly damaged and almost cut off.
One of the residents of Long Nawang Village, Apoi Central Java, said that this condition resulted in the residents of Kayan's Aahu no longer buying necessities of life and fuel oil (BBM) in Long Bagun, East Kalimantan.
Currently, residents prefer to buy basic necessities and fuel at Camp Tapak Mega, Malaysia. Although, the condition of the road to the camp (Tasak) was badly damaged, especially during the rainy season," he said, Sunday, July 7.
He explained that the distance to Camp Tapak Mega took two days even though the road conditions were badly damaged.
"Many road points are badly damaged, if they go to Malaysia, but it's not like if we have to go to Long Bagun which takes 1 month to travel," he said.
"The road from Sungai Boh sub-district to Long Nawang was also badly damaged, such as at kilometers 31 and 45, some even used a codiak plane from the river boh to long nawang," he continued.
Damage to several roads due to the lack of attention from the government to carry out regular maintenance and improve road quality.
"Even though the road that has been built is an important access to the border community's economy in Kayan's Aahu," he said.
