Nickel Supply From The Philippines, PT KFI Gives An Explanation

JAKARTA - The nickel smelter belonging to PT Kalimantan Ferro Industry (KFI) is known to supply nickel from the Philippines for the nickel smelter factory, which first stood in East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

PT Kalimantan Ferro Industry's Owner Representative Muhammad Ardhi Soemargo emphasized that his party actually used 100 percent of the nickel ore supply from Indonesia.

"Why take it from the Philippines? Because some mines have not received RKAB. When there was no RKAB (Work Plan and Budget) then they could not buy it," he said at the General Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with Commission VII DPR RI, Monday, July 8.

Ardhi said the choice to supply nickel from the Philippines was then taken because the purification industry has 1,400 workers and companies that cannot reduce electricity supply that has previously been used by companies and industries that must continue.

The supply of nickel from the Philippines imported is only 1 vessel or weighing 51,000 to.

Ardhi emphasized that the supply of nickel from the Philippines is only to meet the shortage of nickel supply from nickel traders.

"There is nickel from the Philippines, only 1 vesel of 51,000 and only to help nickel ore which is lacking. We couldn't walk when RKAB didn't exist and didn't get nickel ore," he said.

For information, PT Kalimantan Ferro Industry (KFI) plans to develop integrated smelter areas including ferronickel, ferrochrome, and stainless steel.

In the early stages, KFI plans to build 18 ferronickel smelter lines using Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology with an investment value of IDR 30 trillion.

"We will continue to build up to 18 lines that can be realized. What the Chairman said earlier was Rp. 30 trillion," concluded Ardhi.
