MK Rejects Bandung Regency Pilkada Lawsuit, Sahrul Gunawan Becomes Deputy Regent

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) of Bandung Regency stated that it had received the decision from the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the lawsuit of the Nia-Usman pair.

Head of the Bandung Regency KPU, Agus Baroya, said the decision rejected the lawsuit of the number 1 pair Nia Kurnia-Usman Sayogi. That way, pair number 3 Dadang Supriatna-Sahrul Gunawan who gets the most votes is sure to win the Bandung Regent Election (Pilbup).

"Yes, number three (winning), it's just a matter of waiting for the stipulation, the inauguration will be after the stipulation," said Agus in Bandung, West Java, quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 18.

The KPU is currently formulating a schedule for determining the winner of the Bandung Pilbup. It is likely that the determination will be made on Saturday, March 20.

"There is already, we have received the verdict from the Constitutional Court," said Agus.

The results of the recapitulation at the Bandung Regency level, Dadang-Sahrul were declared victorious by getting 928,602 votes, outperforming two other pairs, namely Kurnia Agustina-Usman Sayogi, and Yena Masoem-Atep.

Kurnia-Usman was in second place with 511,413 votes, while the Yena-Atep pair was in the last position with 217,780 votes.

The simultaneous regional elections were held in Bandung Regency on December 9, 2020. Shortly after the voting process was over, two candidate pairs, namely the Nia-Usman and Dadang-Sahrul pairs, claimed victory.

The Dadang-Sahrul pair themselves are promoted by the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Nasdem Party, the Democratic Party, and the Social Justice Party (PKS). Meanwhile, the Nia-Usman pair were promoted by the Golkar Party and the Gerindra Party.
