Alert! Hackers Look For Cryptocurrency From Successful Businessmen In Southeast Asia
JAKARTA - Hackers are reportedly targeting cryptocurrency business players in the Southeast Asian region. One of the reasons is because the value of virtual money has increased significantly from time to time.
Kaspersky researchers revealed findings that cybercriminals managed to infiltrate a cryptocurrency business in Southeast Asia. The results of the investigation revealed that the perpetrator of the crime behind him was the Lazarus group, whose location was identified in Singapore.
Apart from Lazarus, another cyber criminal is BlueNoroff APT which is part of SnatchCrypto. This group is often eyeing bank security, and they were even involved in the Bank Bangladesh fraud case worth IDR1.69 trillion.
Kaspersky managed to detect the difference between SnatchCrypto in 2019. The antivirus company has also been able to identify the main actors who often operate in launching the same attacks.
According to Kaspersky's General Manager for Southeast Asia, Yeo Siang Tiong commented on this threat in the crypto money sector. It will continue to embrace those who do crypto currency in the Southeast Asia region.
"Its growth is an integral part of digital transformation in the region and is in line with the increasing adoption of e-commerce and digital payments," said Yeo.
In addition, there are other cyber criminals who are still spreading threats, namely Kimsuky APT. The group was discovered by Kaspersky in 2013. After that Kimsuky has improved his strategy, technique and victimology in targeting the target.
According to Seongsu Park, Senior Security Researcher at Kaspersky, said that his party continues to monitor Kimsuky's presence in South Korea.
“We have been monitoring Kimsuky's strong presence in South Korea. "Our research shows that they employ two infiltration techniques — an attack via spearphishing and an attack on the supply chain," said Park.
These cyber criminal groups are targeting crypto currency investors to extract data as well as gain deeper access. The hacker group is targeting many cryptocurrency owners, it is possible to target digital money businesses in the Southeast Asian region.
