RI Becomes The Country With The Largest Number Of Unicorns And Decacorns

JAKARTA - Indonesia is now the country with the largest number of unicorn and decacorn companies among other countries.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that one of these was driven by the government's efforts to integrate with ASEAN countries, so that it could be easier to develop and expand market reach

"Indonesia has become the country with the largest number of unicorns and decacorns among other countries," Airlangga said, quoting Antara.

Airlangga highlighted Indonesia's initiative in the Digital Economic Agreement Framework (DEFA) which began during the ASEAN 2023 Chairmanship.

"DEFA has opened a new chapter in the integration of the regional digital economy," he said.

With the DEFA, it is hoped that there will be an increase in investment and innovation, increased productivity, job creation, and empowerment of the MSME sector.

Projections show that the ASEAN digital economy worth one trillion US dollars by 2030 could increase to two trillion US dollars thanks to the use of DEFA.

In addition, Indonesia and ASEAN countries have also integrated payments with the Local Currency Settlement (LCS) policy through the use of QRIS.

He also emphasized the importance of data security in the midst of these various digitalization efforts.

Airlangga explained that supported by the national economy which grew stable in the range of five percent and the ability to maintain inflation levels in the target range, Indonesia is increasingly optimistic in driving the pace of economic transformation towards developed countries by 2045.

Indonesia is estimated to have around 320 million inhabitants with a per capita income of around 26,000 US dollars, so that the Indonesian economy is estimated to reach around nine trillion US dollars.

Therefore, the government continues to encourage an increase in the performance of various machinery of economic growth, especially in the era of digitalization.

Digitalization of various industries will continue to be accelerated so that investment in Indonesia will be more capital-intensive and require new skills from the community.

Furthermore, Airlangga said that the government is also taking various efforts to prepare competitive human resources (HR).

Through the Pre-Employment program, the government provides training that is in accordance with the needs of the labor market, reaching up to 18 million beneficiaries from the beginning of its implementation.

As an archipelagic country, Indonesia faces challenges to promote equal distribution of connectivity and accelerate the development of digital infrastructure.

"A number of efforts have been taken, including through the construction of the Palapa Ring fiber optic network, the use of the Satria Multifunction Satellite for underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas, to the latest, namely adopting low Earth orbital satellite technology," he said.
