Centro Department Store Lift Legs From Yogyakarta, Farewell Message For Employees Makes Sad
JAKARTA - A chain message in the form of a video related to the intention of the Centro Department Store at Plaza Ambarrukmo Mall Yogyakarta to end its operational activities is widely circulated in cyberspace.
From the video obtained by VOI on Thursday, March 18, several people claiming to be Centro Department Store workers lined up in front of the shop outlet saying goodbye.
"We, all employees of Centro Plaza Ambarrukmo, would like to thank the people of Yogyakarta who have accompanied us for 15 years", said one such person.
The message also conveyed that the management of Centro Plaza Ambarrukmo would like to thank the mall manager who has been loyal to accompany for more than a decade.

"We do not forget to thank the entire management of Plaza Ambarrukmo during our presence in Yogyakarta. We are proud to be a part of Yogyakarta. We are proud to always be able to support the people of Yogyakarta", she said.
At the end of the video, you can see all employees waving in the booth while lowering the rolling door to close the shop as a symbol of the end of the operational life of the Centro Department Store at Plaza Ambarrukmo Mall Yogyakarta.
For information, the closure of the Centro retail business is not the only time this has happened. In 2019, the Centro outlet at Plaza Semanggi, Jakarta had to be 'euthanized' due to sluggish sales figures that were not proportional to operating expenses.
Centro itself is under the control of Parkson Retail Asia, which is known for its upper-middle-class retail businesses. Domestically, this business group opens several outlets in big cities, such as the Centro Discovery Shopping Mall Bali, Centro Margo City Depok, Centro Mall of Indonesia, Centro Summarecon Serpong, and Centro Galaxy Mall Surabaya.
The impact of the pandemic is estimated to be the main cause of the stagnation of the retail business in the country in addition to the onslaught of online shopping sites that are now widespread in the community.
