Ordered By President Jokowi, UMPR Will Build Campus At IKN

JAKARTA - Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya University (UMPR) in Central Kalimantan Province (Kalteng) is ready to carry out an assignment from President Joko Widodo to open a campus for academic and research activities within the Nusantara Capital (IKN) area.

"UMPR is ready to follow up on the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia along with two other Muhammadiyah campuses, namely the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and the University of Muhammadiyah East Kalimantan (UMKT)," said the Chancellor of the University of Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya (UMPR) Assoc Prof. Dr. Muhamad Yusuf, at a press conference at Campus-4 UMPR on Jl Anggrek PCPR Palangka Raya, Monday, July 1, confiscated by Antara.

The Muhammadiyah Central Leadership Education and Research Council specifically on May 27, 2024 invited a UMPR Rector zoom meeting with the ranks, a finalization agenda for the opening of the Public Administration's doctoral study program, and the Educational School Study Program, as well as the delivery of assignments for opening academic activities, research, lectures by opening campuses at IKN.

Chairman of the Muhammadiyah PP Diktilitbang Council, Prof. Dr. Bambang Setiadji, said that the President of the Republic of Indonesia assigned the Coordinating Minister for Human Resources and Culture Development (MenkoPMK) to encourage Muhammadiyah universities to carry out activities at IKN, and then directed by MSMEs as superior campuses, as well as UMKT Samarinda and UMPR which were prepared as superior campuses in 2025.

The opening of campuses at IKN through special schemes for assignments from the central government, such as the process of granting operational permits for programs and others, UMPR will take advantage of this trust to be able to contribute to strengthening IKN as Indonesia's new face in the international world.

According to Yusuf, UPR also continues to complete all standards towards superior campuses at the same time as the opening of the Faculty of Medicine, opening the doctoral program, adding to the Masters Program in several fields of science, adding to the S1 study program needed by the world of work which continues to develop and requires certain competencies.

The three initial programs prepared for the UMPR campus at IKN are the Public Administration Masters Program, Agricultural Masters Program with Peat Land Concentration, and the Masters Program for Mining Engineering, Environmental Balance Concentration.

The UMPR also continues to expand the reach of the Vocational School, which is currently 10 areas of competence, so that it can be accessed by Central Kalimantan and rural communities and who live in remote areas.

The Chancellor of UPR also expressed his high appreciation to the Governor of Central Kalimantan, Sugianto Sabran, through the Central Kalimantan Provincial Education Office, which mandates the UMPR to implement the policy of making 1,000 undergraduates from Central Kalimantan every year with the target that all Central Kalimantan residents who graduated from SLTA are already undergraduate in the next 10 years.

UMPR is currently socializing the Central Kalimantan citizen's undergraduate program to schools, urban communities and rural and inland areas so that all residents in this province are biased to access higher education without problems with family funding problems. Acting regents and mayors throughout Central Kalimantan are also committed to overcoming the difficulties of residents in their respective regions to access higher education, which also allocates a budget for tuition financing and participating in the UMPR Vocational School program.
