Wisman's Visit To Indonesia Reaches 5.2 Million, Highest Since The COVID-19 Pandemic
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the total foreign tourists (tourists) who came to Indonesia from January to May 2024 reached 5.2 million visits.
The number of visits was the highest in the last four years since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
"The total number of foreign tourist visits in the first five months of 2024 is the highest since the last four years since 2020," said Plt. BPS Main Secretary Iman Machdi was reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 1.
Foreign tourists visiting Indonesia from January to May 2020 were recorded at only 2.9 million.
Foreign tourist visits fell to 604,000 in the same period in 2021.
This number increased to 997,000 in 2022, and 4.2 million foreign tourists from January to May 2023.
In May 2024, the number of international tourist visits to Indonesia reached 1,145,499 visits, an increase of 7.36 percent on a monthly basis and an increase of 20.11 percent on an annual basis.

Most of the foreign tourists came from neighboring Malaysia, with Malaysia's number reaching 17 percent of the total international tourists visiting Indonesia that month, followed by Australia (12 percent), Singapore (9.7 percent), and China (8.6 percent).
"Vancing foreign tourists from Malaysia increased 17.24 percent on a monthly basis, while on an annual basis it rose 18.26 percent," said Imam.
A total of 544,000 of the total foreign tourists enter Indonesia through Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Tourists who enter the most through this airport are tourists from Australia.
BPS reported that the average length of stay for foreign tourists in May 2024, including foreign tourists crossing the border, spent around 7.51 nights in Indonesia.
