JAKARTA - Minister of National Development Planning (PPN) / Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa stated that the development of the new National Capital City (IKN) will be able to boost the Indonesian economy.

"In our view, if it can be done, it can boost the economy in Eastern Indonesia and the national economy in general, especially in the construction, real estate and consumption sectors," he said at the Joint Meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian Parliament in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, March 17. .

Suharso said that the construction of a new capital city in East Kalimantan is a major project to attract national economic growth, even higher on average in 2045.

"So a big project is needed to attract. So there is encouragement and interest so that our growth rate can be higher until the average in 2045," he said.

Moreover, Suharso said that if the vaccination program could run and achieve herd immunity, then on August 17, 2024, the President of the Republic of Indonesia could carry out a ceremony to commemorate independence in the new capital city.

"On August 17, 2024, the president can carry out August 17 in the capital of the new country," he said.

Not only that, he said that if all goes well and in accordance with the draft in the master plan, he is optimistic that the construction of the presidential palace can begin this year.

Therefore, he said that the development and relocation of the nation's capital would be able to have a positive impact on various factors and sectors that drive the economy with a contribution of between 1.8 percent to 2.2 percent to the economy.
