Narcotics Inmates Get Rich in Prison, Democratic Legislator Asks Minister of Law and Human Rights To Take Action
JAKARTA - Members of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Santoso Democrat Faction highlighted the problem of drugs in prisons during a commission work meeting with the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly, Wednesday, March 17.
According to Santoso, drug convicts are more 'playing' while in prison than before being imprisoned.
"About the behavior of users and dealers, after entering the prison, the comfort is extraordinary compared to when outside", said the legislator for the Jakarta electoral district.
Santoso also criticized the 643 drug dealers who were moved to Nusa Kambangan. According to him, Kemenkumham has not maximally supervised the 643 drug convicts.
"Apart from the overcrowded prisons of drug convicts, the bookies are also free to move while inside. For that reason, the amount you are serving is real but in my opinion, it is not yet maximal. I hope that 2021 will be maximized", he said.
According to Santoso, it is not a secret that the dealers after being arrested are more comfortable and even more free to control the circulation outside the prison.
Therefore, he urged the Minister of Law and Human Rights to increase prosecution against inmates who are still known to be circulating drugs from inside prisons.
"I live in Tanjung Priok, there are many airports, there is a friend of mine who is a small port. Before he was arrested he rented his house but when he was inside he had a house. This is clear evidence, so it must be extraordinary to take action by the minister", said Santoso.
