BRGM Encourages Acceleration Of Mangrove Rehabilitation In Kaltara
TARAKAN - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of North Kalimantan (Kaltara), continues to carry out rehabilitation of mangrove areas in five regencies and cities, namely Bulungan, Nunukan, Tarakan City, Malinau, and Tana Tidung Regencies.
This was revealed by the Governor of Kaltara, Zainal A Paliwang, when receiving a working visit from the Head of the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM), Hartono in Tarakan, Monday, June 24.
"One of them is planting mangrove trees regularly in coastal areas. Since 2021, President Jokowi together with Forkopimda Kaltara and the community who own ponds regularly plant mangroves on the coast of Kaltara waters," said Zainal.
The governor continues to invite the public, especially the owner of a pond in Kaltara to care for and regreen the pond area with Mangrove plants.
"We also provide assistance in the form of seeds to the community to support efforts to accelerate Mangrove rehabilitation in Kaltara. Planting is carried out almost every month, especially when there is a guest visit from outside the region," he said.
"The central government through BRGM RI has paid special attention in Kaltara, thank you for the support that has been given. Hopefully in the next three years, the people of Kaltara can take advantage of this assistance well so that their ponds are successful and provide significant economic benefits," continued Zanal.
Meanwhile, the head of BRGM Hartono explained, Kaltara currently owns a mangrove area of 31,370 hectares (ha).
"Kaltara is one of the provinces that has the widest mangrove land in Indonesia. There are nine provinces that are a priority to accelerate mangrove rehabilitation through the Indonesia's Mangroves for Coastal Resilience program, one of which is Kaltara," he said.
